Marine Service Noord prevents grey hairs for green maritime projects within the Maritime Master Plan
As part of the Maritime Master Plan, Marine Service Noord presents itself as a committed and experienced partner for the development and realization of projects involving alternative fuels in the maritime sector.
From concept to realization
Marine Service Noord supports projects from the first stage. From concept development and technical design to risk management, construction supervision and full system integration, our company is involved from day one. The most critical decisions are often made during the initial phases of a project. With years of hands-on experience in systems for LNG, methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen, we understand that the greatest challenges frequently arise long before construction begins.
The early integration of technical risks, regulatory requirements and operational safety is essential. That is why our organization works closely with classification societies, flag states and other experienced partners throughout the industry.
Expertise in complex regulations and safety
Regulations surrounding alternative fuels such as ammonia, methanol and hydrogen are evolving rapidly. As a result, many projects must follow the IMO Alternative Design Approval (ADA) process, which requires demonstrating that a design is safe and feasible.
With extensive practical experience, Marine Service Noord understands not only the technical requirements but also their impact on project costs, feasibility and execution. By remaining involved through to completion, we help significantly reduce risks and challenges throughout complex project trajectories.
Concrete projects and proven experience
The involvement of Marine Service Noord in the Maritime Master Plan is reflected in our participation in the MENENS project and our contribution to various innovative initiatives that support the decarbonization of the maritime sector.
A recent collaboration with Fugro focuses on the development and implementation of methanol fuel systems.
In addition, Marine Service Noord has extensive experience with LNG as an alternative fuel. For Rederij Doeksen, the company designed and built the LNG Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS) for the ferries Willem Barentsz and Willem de Vlamingh. Multiple vessels operated by Chemgas have also been equipped with LNG systems, including both seagoing tankers and inland waterway vessels.
Within Fortescue’s Green Pioneer ammonia project, we gained valuable experience in the design, construction and commissioning of an ammonia fuel system. This knowledge has also been applied in the development of a white paper on the implementation and feasibility of ammonia as a marine fuel, which will be presented during the second round of the Maritime Master Plan.
In the field of hydrogen, Marine Service Noord is making a specialist contribution to the Krukel pilot project within the Green Shipping Waddenzee program. Our company is involved in the development and implementation of onboard hydrogen storage, distribution and safety systems.
Building the future together
With the second call of the Maritime Master Plan opening on 19 May 2026 and running until 3 November 2026, this is a good moment to start building consortia and further refine project ideas.
Marine Service Noord is committed at this stage to supporting the development of projects that are technically robust, feasible and commercially viable. As a knowledge and implementation partner, our organisation stands ready to contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions within the maritime sector.
