From 1 to 4 September 2026, Marine Service Noord attended SMM Hamburg, the leading international trade fair for the maritime industry. From the Dutch Pavilion in Hall B7, we met with customers, partners and other professionals from the maritime sector and had extensive discussions about the future of shipping and alternative fuels.

Discussing the Energy Transition

During SMM Hamburg, developments surrounding ammonia, hydrogen and methanol were high on the agenda. The energy transition within the maritime sector brings new technical challenges, but at the same time offers opportunities for innovative and practical solutions.

Throughout the exhibition, our specialists discussed the possibilities and applications of alternative fuels and shared their knowledge and experience from various projects. One question was central to these discussions: how can new fuels be used on board ships in a safe, reliable and practical way?

Fortescue Ammonia Project Takes Centre Stage

An important part of our presence at SMM Hamburg was the Fortescue ammonia project. For this project, Marine Service Noord designed and manufactured, among other things, a dedicated bunkering module.

During the exhibition, the module was displayed at our stand as a 3D-printed scale model. The model gave visitors a tangible impression of the bunkering module designed by Marine Service Noord and highlighted our contribution to the development and application of alternative fuels within the maritime sector.

On Thursday, 3 September, Sales Manager Gerard Eising gave a presentation on our role in the Fortescue ammonia project. He explained how Marine Service Noord has been involved throughout the project, from concept design through to commissioning and crew instructions. He also discussed the practical aspects of working with ammonia as an alternative fuel.

Valuable Meetings and Connections

Our presence at SMM Hamburg gave us the opportunity to meet existing relationships in person and establish new contacts. The many conversations and valuable meetings provided us with new insights and opened up new opportunities for collaboration.

We look back on a successful exhibition and would like to thank everyone who visited our stand in the Dutch Pavilion and engaged with us in discussions about the future of the maritime sector. Together, we will continue to work on innovative and sustainable solutions that contribute to the transition towards cleaner, low-emission shipping.
